Actually Sam you can use regular plywood for the airboats, but the use of fiberglass is good too. While researching on the hovercraft stuff I found that using construction foam sandwiched by thin plywood and then fiberglass makes a heck of a buoyant base for building an airboat.

Bob do you have to use marine wood for this or can I use something else? I was kinda wanting to use fiberglass on my airboat for a slicker look. Sam

Tim you sound like me… too many projects and not enough time (when the wife gives me some). As for the ice. You can run the airboat on ice but be sure to under-skin it first since the ice will gouge and cut the airboat hull. I don’t think it will run well on snow though as you might plow in, but I just don’t know you might just slide right over it too.

Hi Bob,
I’m building the one man boat, well actually I have BEEN building it for about 6 months off and on when I have spare time. I was wondering how this airboat would work on ice since it looks like it might be winter before I get around to finishing it.

Yep, it sure is. That’s the single seat boat that the guy built about 2-3 yrs ago. Since the redesign of the site a few people have said that they were going to send in more when they build theirs.
